Road to ChaosLudik: Oh shit! The Tournament is 1500pts now?

Hey everybody,

Sooo I really should have checked the updated tournament information.  Seems the point limit for the Age of Sigmar tournament has been raised from 1250 to 1500! a bit annoying to say the least.  I am so close to finishing the army before the end of the month and now I have to add another 250 points to it to be able to fight on an even scale.

Oh well...

Fortunately, adding another 250 points is actually rather easy in the case of my army.  I'm going to have to buy a Butcher and two Gorgers to round out the list.  This has the added benefit of also not leaving any unspent points.

Ogors x 6
Ogors x 6
Ironguts x 6
Gorgers x 2

So three more models to paint...time to hit-up Ebay!  In the meantime lets take a look at how to paint these bad boys quick and easy:

As with my last post we start with a black base coat, I use Army Painter brand in this instance.  The Ogre skin is then painted with the base colour, in this case Tallarn Flesh (GW), Khardic Flesh (P3) and lastly Tanned Flesh (Old GW).

The second step is to basecoat everything else on the mini with the colours we will then be washing. In this case I mixed it up a bit, starting on the left I painted the pants Orkhide Shade (GW).  The middle Ogre Mordian Blue (GW) and the last Ogre I painted Necron Abyss (GW).

On all the Ogres I painted the metal bits Boltgun Metal (Old GW) the cloth wrappings and teeth Khemri Brown (GW) and the Leather belts Battlefield Brown (P3).

(Please ignore my finger!) I then painted on a healthy wash on all three.  The Ogres on either end had their skin, pants and various things I glued to them on the back which you can't see Agrax Earthshaded (GW).  The Ogre in the middle had his skin washed in Seraphim Sepia (GW) and his pants in Earthshade as well.  All of them had their metal bits washed in Armour Wash (P3).  Once done just let them dry out and get ready for the last highlight.

Okay!  Starting with the Ogre on the left, highlight the skin with Tallarn flesh (GW), followed by a light drybrush of Dwarf Flesh (Old GW).  For the middle Ogre highlight the skin with Khardic flesh (P3) followed by the lightest of light drybrush of Dwarf Flesh (Old GW).  Lastly, the Ogre on the right highlight the skin with Tanned Flesh (Old GW) followed by a light drybrush of Khardic Flesh (P3).

As for the rest of the Ogres, drybrush Chainmail (Old GW) on all the exposed metal including the blade of the weapons.  You want to make sure the darker metal/armour wash stay in the recesses of the metal bits.  The cloth wrapping and teeth/finger nails you want to paint lightly with an off white. In this case I used Menoth White base (P3) however Ushabti Bone (GW) works as well.  I also used it to paint the stitching on the butt of the Ogres pants (not pictured)

As for the pants I painted the left ogre with Catachan Green (Old GW).  I highlighted the pants on the middle ogre with a Dark Blue (Vallejo) and I painted the pants on the last Ogre with Lich Purple (Old GW).

The rest of the bits and bobbles on the minis got painted in a bunch of different ways, I'll leave that all up to you to figure out but the end result is this:

So there we go, three Ogres with three different skin tones to help bring individuality yo your unit.  Next up, three more Ogres and a frantic hitting up of Ebay to get the last minis I need.

Wish me luck!

Road to ChaosLudik: Wooooah, we're half way there...WOAHH...

Hey Everyone!

So I managed to get even more painting done this weekend then I had thought I would.  I finished up the last of my Ironguts and began working on my last 6-man unit of Ogre bulls.

So here they are in all their glory!  So far I have twelve Ogres painted with 6 more to go, three of which I already started painting.

I decided to slap together quick "How does Commodus paint these damn things?" guide.  I actually have to finish painting the Ogres to have the whole guide done, but I decided to show three different skin options.

As can be seen be the strategic placement of colours, I'll show you have I paint Ogres using three different Skin tones.  Old GW Tanned Flesh, P3 Khardic Flesh and GW Base Tallarn Flesh.

That's all for now, be back soon for more Ogres!

Road to ChaosLudik: You'd Think I'd be Tired of Ogres by now...

Hello everyone!

So I'm back with another update on my progress for the tournament.  I have my list all figured out and all the minis I need purchased and ready to be painted.

So without further ado:

BEHOLD!  My glorious Ironguts pictured in my cheaply made picturebox, constructed from a box I found and white copy paper I stole from work (tell no one).

I think I have Ogre painting down to a science at this point.  I used several different techniques to get the different skin tones I've used which I will tell you all one day...but for now feast your eyes on this!

Look at all his terribly painted horror!  I just got this guy off of Ebay and boy does he need to be stripped.  I'm going to have to let this guy soak for a day or two to get everything off of him.  I'll probably need to tear the arms off to as there are some major gaps that need to be re-pinned and Greenstuffed.

That's all I have for now. Next up I hope to have the next 3 Ironguts I need to complete the unit. Wish me luck!

Road to ChaosLudik: Commodus Paints Age of Sigmar

Hey everybody!

Okay so, I didn't paint as much as I would have liked last month.  I actually only, kinda, technically painted as much as I did in January (I rebased some models).  Turns out those Fire Giants were a beast to get done.

Despite my poor performance I plan on buckling down this month because I just signed up for an Age of Sigmar tournament in a little under two months (April 23rd to be exact). That means I have to buy and paint a 1125pt army in that time....go me!

So I decided to break out my Gutbusters!  I had been hoping there would be a 9th Age tournament, but that seems to have been pushed back to November.  Which is fine by me as it gives me a chance to practice more and also, maybe, finally finish rebasing my Empire army.

So right now my plan is to get these bad boys painted up and done by the end of the week.  I'm not sure what skin colour scheme I'm going to use so I plan on using these guys to test.

Meanwhile I sort of mentioned I had rebased some stuff for my Empire of the Sonnestahl army.

The Warmachines themselves are complete but I still have to get the crew re-painted, and in some cases stripped to begin with.

So my total count of painting models for February is....three...with two rebases.  Going to have to get in gear for this month!  My Goal is at least ten!

Wish me luck!

Heroes Inc: D&D Painting Adventure!

Hey Everyone!

So my current D&D campaign is winding down and my gaming group is finally off to the finally.  So I better get my ass in gear and get the models painted up!

Not to get into to much detail (You don't need me to go into a lore rant about the world I created) but a fellow by the name of Ashis Golgoth, a pretty nasty Fire Giant, has gotten his hands on a Pool of Radiance.  He's using it to cause all kinds of mischief, namely tearing apart the Planes by shifting them around so the Elemental Plane of fire sits among the outer planes of the gods.

Nasty stuff....but there is a band of adventures on their way to deal with the issue....Heroes Inc! (not actually incorporated).  So I'm currently working on painting Ashis and his without further ado:

Behold my terrible picture taking!  (I need a proper picture box...must work on one).

Here they are, the final bosses of my year long D&D campaign.  Gaze upon my terrible attempt at Lava and the horrible blending on the blade.  Actually they came out better then I thought.  Which is good!  Because I have other stuff I got on my desk that I have to get done as soon as I can.  But more on that later, for now enjoy some Giants!

Bye for now.

Ogres of the Averholme: January Complete!

Hello Everyone!

So I'm back with a quick update on what I've been working on.  As I mentioned in my last post I want to get some AoS models painted up and ready to play with!  So here they are:

So my model count for the month of January is....four. One of which is just a token for D&D mostly. I have two old, OOP metal models in the mix.  An old Ogre and that I will be using as a Gutbuster champion/Random Ogre encounter in D&D.  The other is the old Blood Bowl Morg N'Thorg mini that I bought to fill out whatever Ogre unit I needed him for.  In this case, my Gutbusters!  The bonus being that I can use him for Blood Bowl too, should I ever get around to getting the new set.

Here's the completed Age of Sigmar unit:

One unit down!  I have 6 Ironguts, 3 Leadbelchers and a Tyrant left to purchase and paint.  Now part of the reason I'm painting these minis is for utility.  I want to use them in as many games as possible. So with that in mind...

A movement try!  I got it painted up and magnetized as well.  The whole thing came out great!  The surface area takes up about as much space as my 3x3 movement try I use for my 9th Age Ogres. Because of that I can use these guys for AoS, 9th Age, Kings of War...anything!

Well now that January is done I need a painting goal for February.  So far my goal is "Paint more then January" wish me luck!

Ogres of the Averholme: New Year, New Project!

Hello everyone!

So after much thought I've decided to start the new year working on a new force for Age of Sigmar.  You may have already seen a few of the Ogres I have managed to finish up already.  Now I plan on getting the rest of my "Gutbusters" painted and put together and on the playing field!

Here's what I have so far.  The plan to for a force that can be used for Age of Sigmar, 9th Age, Kings of War or D&D monsters...maybe with a little Frostgrave thrown in.

My Gutbuster force will be 1000pts and the list so far is:

1x Tyrant
6x Ogors
3x Leadbelchers
6x Ironguts

Of the minis I need I am only missing the Tyrant and Leadbelchers.  As soon as I find a good Ebay deal they will be mine!  Oh yes!

Well I am off to get this project into high gear.  Wish me luck!
